The Sugar Shack
Tybee Island, Georgia has been home to The Sugar Shack for more than 45 years. From its humble beginnings as a summertime walk-up ice cream stand, to its current status as a year-round full-menu restaurant, The Sugar Shack has grown and changed almost as much as its four owners! The four Grosse brothers, Russell, Ian, Louis, and Bruce, already had a name for themselves as “The Peanut Boys” when they acquired The Sugar Shack in 1971. Today, the restaurant is still run by an original brother or two, and their mom, Mary, keeps everyone in line. Most of the folks working there are family (or feel like family, anyway), and now some of the grandkids are helping to keep the place running!

We have a great line up of the all-American Southern classics available to choose from.” -Agnes Yao The first Sunrise Restaurant was founded on July 22, 1987 on the Southside of Savannah, GA. Capitalizing on serving good, substantial breakfasts, Paul Yao worked the grill while Agnes Yao waited on the customers. Soon after, the high-quality breakfast caught the attention and taste buds of the Savannah Morning News, featuring Sunrise in a review that claimed, “the omelettes are the specialty of the house.” Word spread and success followed. Tybee Sunrise expanded to a second location on Tybee Island in 1990. Sunrise Tybee was five times the size of the original location, but the family was undaunted in their pursuit to provide good food and friendly service to all customers.
